Vuyani Safe Haven moves forward with building project

Since its initiation in 2020, the Vuyani Buy-a-Brick Campaign has steadily gathered momentum, aimed at raising funds for essential renovations and expansions to the Cradock Street house. Now, after meticulous planning and unwavering support from donors, the Vuyani Board has greenlit the release of funds to initiate the first phase of the building project.
This milestone marks a significant step forward for Vuyani Safe Haven, made possible by the generosity of supporters who have contributed to the Buy-a-Brick campaign over the past four years. The funds will kickstart Phase 1 of the building project, focusing on renovating the communal areas within the facility - the project entails comprehensive renovations to the communal hall area, including the installation of new flooring and ceilings, removal of the old wooden floors together with the temporary office partitioning walls and replacing it with a concrete floor with more functional partitioning walls for the new office space, repainting of internal walls, servicing and repainting of doors, and electrical installation.
Looking ahead, the Board plans to tackle Phase 2 and 3 of the projects once Phase 1 is completed. The Intermediate Phase will address urgent adjustments necessary to comply with health and safety standards, such as relocating the kitchen, laundry and scullery, and creating additional bedroom and bathroom facilities. The Last Phase will focus on upgrading office space to accommodate visitors more comfortably and privately.
Emphasising the importance of sustainability and long-term planning, the Board views these renovations as investments in the future of Vuyani Safe Haven. By enhancing facilities, they aim to create a secure, nurturing environment where children are motivated to learn and play.
However, funding remains a crucial aspect of realising these plans. With the approval of building plans by the municipality and a final project estimate of R4,133,000, additional funding beyond the R1m from the Vuyani Trust is necessary to complete the project. The Board appeals to the public for continued support through donations to the Vuyani Buy-a-Brick Campaign, which offers the opportunity to contribute virtually via the campaign's website.
As Vuyani Safe Haven embarks on this transformative journey, they extend their gratitude to all donors and stakeholders for their ongoing commitment to improving the lives of children in need.
