Rhodes University Hilltop Residence renamed

Rhodes University and Desmond Tutu Hall will officially rename the university residence Hilltop House, Sisulu House in memory of Walter Max Ulyate Sisulu (18 May 1912- 5 May 2003) and Nontsikelelo Albertina Sisulu (21 October 1918 - 2 June 2011) in an official naming ceremony next week.

Max Sisulu, Walter and Albertina‘s son, will unveil the plaque and make a speech on behalf of the family. By renaming the residence, Rhodes University says it is recognis- ing the sacrifices that Walter and Albertina Sisulu - both of whom were born in the Eastern Cape - made in fighting oppression and apartheid.

The official naming ceremony will take place at Sisulu House at 4.45pm on Tuesday, 13 October.
