SAC early rowing success

-

Saturday saw the St Andrew’s College Rowing Club compete in their first regatta of the season – the Zwartkops Regatta which was was held over 500m incorporating print style racing.

Although they've had limited preparation time, it was a successful first outing with SAC taking gold in the U15A, B and C Quad and A and B Eight, while Richard Van Collar won the B sculls.

The U16A and B Fours, A pairs and the A eight (beating Grey High School’s second eight) all won gold.

The Opens also took gold in the first and second pairs, 1st Quad and 2nd Fours events.

In the Blue ribbon event of the day – a 5.4km boat race style time trial event – St Andrew’s managed to edge out the various clubs in the U16 division winning the U16A fours.

Additionally two eights where entered in the opens event, as boys are still undergoing selection for the Boat Race squad. Both crews looked strong, however St Andrew’s Probables managed to take advantage of good early speed and rowed through Grey and the SAC Possible crews which meant the Probables took first and the Possibles second place in the Open A Eights ahead of Grey and NMMU.

The St Andrew’s crews are in now training for the Boat Race in December.
