Join the walk to get more police out on foot

-

A few weeks ago a friend of mine was attacked and stabbed in his Market Street home and his wife told me that approximately 100 police officers responded to the incident.

She was very impressed and grateful.

I feel that a more ‘proactive’ approach by our SAPS would be to introduce 24-hour foot patrols by pairs of police officers of both sexes as this would improve their physical fitness, be a strong deterrent to criminals and improve their image and link with our citizens.

If you agree with this approach, please meet me at the Drostdy Arch at 10.30am on Saturday 31 October.

There Lt Col Monray Nel, in charge of visible policing in Grahamstown, and two police officers will join us on a walk down High, Bathurst and Beaufort streets to the police station where we will deliver a letter requesting 24-7 foot patrols.

I hope that a local tour guide will accompany us as we walk, talk about the need for a safe environment and the potential of tourism to create employment.

I appeal to the people of Grahamstown to support me with my walk to the police station.

I’m sure that you see the value of a fit police force patrolling our city.
