Willows lose to Cuylervill­e

Willows’ opening batsman, Bradley Christian, scored a century in only his second match for his club against Cuylervill­e at Shaw Park on Sunday. Willows lost the game by 51 runs.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat in perfect batting conditions. Cuylervill­e posted a massive 310/7 in their allotted 50 overs.

Willows got off to a good start taking two wickets for 20 runs, but the home side came back strongly. Veteran Richard Muir top scored with 84 runs. Brent Emslie (56 runs), Brandon Handley (44 runs) and Francois Flopper (44 not out) supported Muir well.

Veteran swing bowler Clinton Gill was the best bowler for Willows with 2 for 49 in 10 overs.

In their run chase, Willows lost an early wicket without any score on the board.

But Christian and Mello Daniels (15) put up a hurricane 42 runs for the second wicket to get the team back on track. Christian made 137 runs which included 17 fours and 4 sixes.

However, wickets fell at regular intervals around Christian. Brooks (29 runs), Cole Wessels (23 not out), and Nav- an Daniels (13 not out) added to the run chase. Charlie Muir was the best bowler with 2/31 in 10, Cameron Braans 2/39, Klopper 2/39. Willows ended with 259/8 in their allotted 50 overs.
