Kingswood come off 2nd best

- By STEPHEN PETTITT

Kingswood 1st hockey side hosted DSG on the City Lords astro turf to bring the day’s hockey to a close in front of a large crowd as supporters surrounded the fences trying to get a glimpse of the action.

DSG started the match and got right into their rhythm which saw them score two goals in the first 10 minutes as Kingswood appeared shell shocked.

Faye Lane opened the scoring for the visitors and Julie Jevon doubled their lead a few minutes later to put DSG in a commanding position. Kingswood started to get into the game and began to keep more of the ball while showing glimpses of their attacking prowess.

Unfortunately for the hosts, a good run and a composed finish saw Sandisiwe Tabata take DSG’s lead to 3-0 as the teams headed into half-time.

DSG started where they left off in the second half and applied immense pressure on the Kingswood defence as they dominated the territory and possession.

DSG then had a siege of attacks as they looked for their fourth goal in one penalty corner after the next. However the Kingswood defence was not letting up.

Eventually it was Storm Christy who proved to be too good as she finished a DSG penalty corner with a great drag flick which found the top corner.

Kingswood showed good character throughout the match but were ultimately outplayed by the DSG team in a game which saw the hosts struggle to get a foothold in. DSG won 4-0.
