Running the mountain

- STAFF REPORTER

The annual Oak Cottage Spar Mountain Drive Half-Marathon, Grahamstown’s only Eastern Province Athletics affiliated running race, takes place on Saturday 6 August. The race starts and finishes at the Rhodes University Prospect Field.

The race is open to all athletes, whether they belong to a club or not, and it is known to attract many out-of-town athletes.

The 21km race has participation league status on the EPA running calendar and so attracts many of the province’s top athletes as they gain points for their respective clubs.

The event is hosted by Run/Walk For Life Athletics Club, and is once again sponsored by Oak Cottage Spar.

Last year’s event saw a small change in the route, meaning for a faster final 6km stretch to Prospect Field.

All finishers will receive a medal. Entry fee is R50, with unlicensed entrants paying an additional R30 fee each for temporary licences.

Pre-entries close on Wednesday 3 August at Sports Centre (28 New Street) in Grahamstown, Brian Bands Sports in Port Elizabeth and Brockett’s Sports in Uitenhage.

Online entries can be made at website www.roag.co.za and these close at midnight on Wednesday 3 August.
