Give it a shot
The Rhodes Rifle Club is holding a shooting competition to raise funds for new rifles. What is hoped to become an annual event in Grahamstown lets students and businesses participate or sponsor the rifle club and take a shot at winning a cash prize.
The Rhodes University Rifle Club is hosting a fund-raiser to develop the club and to promote the sport of shooting within Grahamstown and the broader community.
The competition they are calling the Rhodes University Rifle Club Grahamstown Open began last month and continues until 21 October with the competition finals concluding the event the following day.
This gives people a large window of opportunity to participate in the event, and get the highest score possible.
Rifles, scope and ammunition are provided by the Rifle Club before the shooting begins. The format for the competition consists of teams of four with an entry fee of R200 per team. Re-qualifica- tions are allowed and in the spirit on competition which is something the Rhodes Rifle Club wants to achieve through this event.
This fund-raiser aims to encourage as many participants as possible and hopes to have teams of men, women and juniors all involved in this exciting competition.
From the fund-raiser the Rhodes Rifle Club hopes to buy new PCP air rifles to grow the sport on campus and also invite local high schools within Grahamstown who are interested in learning the sport.
The competition follows a basic qualifying format with a top eight sudden death shootout in the finals.
The first place prize is 25 percent of the total entry fee meaning the more who participate, the higher the prize! The RUFC Open looks like a fun competition for students, business's and friends so come down to the Rhodes Rifle Club and make a day of it.
