Rugby Day fixtures announced

- STAFF REPORTER

Graeme College will face Selborne College in the main match of the Pam Golding Properties Graeme Rugby Day on 25 March 2017.

This annual pipe-opener to the Eastern Province school’s rugby programme has again drawn the leading Eastern Cape sides with 21 matches across various age groups to be played on three fields.

The day will again provide a programme of intriguing encounters between EP and Border schools. Two afternoon games will provide interesting tests for Grahamstown schools Kingswood and St Andrew’s.

Kingswood have had a superb team in recent seasons and the challenge for the class of 2017 is to maintain the high standards their predecessors have set. For example, they outclassed Pearson in their clash this year, but the showdown at the Graeme Rugby Day next year will provide a good indication of the respective schools’ chances for the season.

St Andrew’s will face rising East London side Hudson Park in the main curtain-raiser at 3pm, looking to reverse the 16-14 setback they suffered in their school’s programme fixture this year. Hudson have put much into their rugby recently and proved competitive this year with notable wins over Marlow, Queen’s and St Andrew’s.

They will be keen to extend that sort of form, but will have a testing time against the hardrunning Grahamstown outfit.

Another highly anticipated encounter will be the 12.40pm clash between Grey High and Marlow Agricultural. Both Queen’s and Dale will be in action when they take on Framesby and Brandwag respectively.
