Brumbies fun tomorrow

-

Fabian Juries said it is a “privilege and a honour” to have tomorrow’s rugby and netball tournament named after him.

The Fabian Juries Community Fun Day 10s rugby and netball takes place at the Oval with the first fixtures scheduled to start at 9am. The event is hosted by Brumbies, of which Juries is a former member.

Brumbies media officer, Chesley Daniels, said the event is named after Juries as the club chose to “honour him as one of Grahamstown’s legends in this short format of the game”.

Juries, who helped secure sponsorship for the event and financially contributed to the day, said the event “also gives me the opportunity to give something back to the community that supported me throughout my rugby career”.

Juries will also be playing in the 10s rugby, as a member of Cello Tape, his former area of residence, where his parents still reside. His side’s first game will be against Ghost Town at 9.24am. The first match of the day sees Currie Park Rebels up against Verries United.

“Juries was a great servant and example to our community and his achievements locally, nationally and internationally speak for itself. We acknowledge his performances in this fashion and what he has done for us over the years,” said Daniels.

On the netball courts, Ghost Town and Verries will be the first match.
