Bonds of Friends picnic at Bible Monument

- MAKANA TOURISM

Why picnic with us at the Bible Monument? The simplicity of spreading a blanket and eating your favourite finger food becomes a memorable experience and a chance to be neighbourly within the wider community. Basil Mills will bring and display his historic wagons at the monument in Rautenbach Road

As we revisit this heritage site and understand its significance for us today we will re-affirm our common ground with parents raising children to respect the Bible and its teachings. It allows us to spend time with people who we may not meet during the year because they belong to a different church group.

Our hope is that we start a tradition of an “early Christmas” where country games and good times with family and friends, both young and old, become part of the countdown to Christmas.

Meet at the Bible Monument at 10.30 am. If you want to be part of the walk up from the Drostdy Arch, meet at 9.30 to leave at 9.45am. We expect the walk will take about 45 minutes. Dress comfortably with suitable shoes for a long walk.

What to bring: A picnic basket, your umbrella or tent for shelter, a blanket or folding chair to sit on. It will be possible to braai so bring your gas braai along, although no fires are permitted. We hope to have a small tuck shop to supplement your picnic basket and cater for last minute add-ons.

Post a Christmas card at the oldest letter box in South Africa (which we will walk past) and add a valuable franked stamp to your family collection! A pop-up watering hole to purchase your favourite cold drink will be on offer.
