A good T20 showing
St Andrew’s College first cricket teams Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge came to an end this week, when they lost to Selborne College in the Regional finals.
The eighth edition of the Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge began at the end of last year, with more than 700 schools involved, making the 2016/17 tournament, the biggest of its kind.
The tournament, which is in the process of churning out the different regional winners, includes 16 CSA Focus Schools, which were also entered into the tournament for the first time. The best of those will be part of the national finals in Stellenbosch set to be held from 17-19 March 2017.
“Focus schools are schools with a cricket history and facilities, but with a changing demographic,” said CSA Youth and Tertiary Cricket Manager, Niels Momberg.
“Cricket South Africa supports these schools with coaching and facility upgrades, as well as general cricket logistical input.”
In this week’s regional final, St Andrew’s struggled to gain momentum in their batting innings against Selborne.
The Selborne bowlers bowled a good length on the slow pitch, restricting St Andrew’s to 103/6 in their 20 overs.
Peter Jarvis adapted well to the conditions to top score with 52 runs off 54 balls.
In reply, Selborne also found it tough to score, but their batmen managed to keep the run change in check, to win by six wickets. Focus school, Hudson Park, along with Selborne, will represent the Warriors Franchise at the national finals.
