Nine-run win for Kingswood
Kingswood College first cricket side bowled out their Pearson counterparts with eight balls remaining in the day, to win by nine runs.
Kingswood won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first on a good looking surface. Kingswood were soon in trouble with the score on 8/3, due to a good spell from the Pearson openers.
Kingswood were fighting hard at 80/6. Once again, the middle and lower order showed some grit with useful contributions from Aidan Hawkesworth (28) James Kelly (35) Aidan Meyer (33) Blaine Archibald (23) and a ninth-wicket partnership of 31 between Josh von Holdt (16 not out) and Hilton Krige (15 not out). Kingswood reached 168/8 in 65 overs.
Pearson had 55 overs to reach the 169 runs for victory and they started quickly and raced along to 27 before Josh von Holdt (2/21) picked up the first wicket.
With the score still on 27, Brad Sterling (3/40) picked up the big wicket of the Pearson captain Jarod Froneman (26).
Hilton Krige (1/20) then picked up the third wicket with the score on 37. At this stage the game was in the balance. Pearson knew that one big partnership would be enough and Kingswood knew they needed to bowl Pearson out.
Pearson moved along to 118/6 and the game was set up for an exciting finish. Aidan Meyer (3/22) held his nerve to pick up three key wickets, leaving Pearson 30 runs to get with 1 wicket in hand. Pearson continued to fight and the last wicket partnership put on 34 runs before Brad Sterling took the last wicket with 8 balls left in the day.
