Water saving campaign
Sunlight — a South African brand with highly water dependent products — is making a practical difference to the country’s efforts to conserve water.
Having already helped thousands of South Africans save water, from March to June 2017, Sunlight 2in1 with SmartFoam continues its mission to save water and create a nation of Smart Water Savers through its #SunlightSaveWater Challenge.
The #SunlightSaveWater Challenge sees Sunlight teaming up with much-loved SA actress Leleti Khumalo, touring the country championing the cause of sustainable water use and encouraging the behaviour changes that will ensure a sustainable future.
“South Africa is an incredibly water-scarce country, with low, sporadic rainfall,” said Jane Fenner, Laundry South Africa Director at Unilever. “We’re struggling to meet growing water demand. Despite recent heavy rain in some parts of the country, only 8.6% of rainfall converts to useable runoff *.
“As part of our commitment to ensure South Africa’s sustainable water future, Unilever set up the Unilever Centre for Environmental Water Quality (UCEWQ), a research institute that has been at the forefront of South African water sustainability since its inception more than 15 years ago. Water sustainability is an issue that we all need to work together on to address. We all need to change our water-usage behaviour. We are encouraging the public to join the water-saving movement and become Smart Water Savers.”
Sunlight 2in1 with Smart Foam Technology helps South Africans use less water with a soap-free rinse.
“Many South Africans have water limitations when it comes to domestic use,” says Fenner. “With laundry continuing to be an essential household chore, SmartFoam has changed household laundry behaviour to be more water efficient.” Added to this, Sunlight continues to invest in solutions for water-scarce regions, providing JoJo tanks and nondrip push taps to communities across the country. Unilever Centre for Environmental Water Quality research shows this helps households with unreliable water supply to manage their water usage better.
“Our research shows that our relentless efforts to promote water saving have made a tangible difference in the lives of communities,” concludes Fenner. “We are committed to creating a culture of water saving among all South Africans.”
