Celebrates 1 year in business

- STAFF REPORTER

It’s been a year since Featherstone Brewery started supplying their hand-crafted ales to the Grahamstown community. Grahamstown’s first, and only, craft brewery has gone from strength to strength in the past year.

Originally supplying just a few outlets in Grahamstown, Featherstone Brewery now supplies many of the bars and restaurants and liquor stores around town as well as further afield in Port Alfred, Kenton, and Hogsback. Their range of beers has also expanded from their original four brands to six today, as well as a beer brewed exclusively for Casa de Loco restaurant. In case you haven’t heard yet, Featherstone Brewery not only supplies restaurants and bottle stores, but they also deliver to your door. The hands-on owners, Mark and Clare Riley, also attend local markets and events, like the Supurban Pop-Up Market, which looks set to become a monthly feature in Grahamstown. Food and beer pairings are also part of Featherstone’s repertoire: the first successful pairing was held at Graze by the River in Port Alfred last month, with another planned for the near future at Haricots Deli & Bistro.

As part of their birthday celebrations, Featherstone Brewery will be holding a “buy two, get one free” promotion at the Rat and Parrot on Wednesday 26 April, a fantastic way to start (what for many people will be) a five-day weekend. If you haven’t had a chance to taste all six brands yet, the Rat will also be doing an exclusively Featherstone beers tasting tray that evening, giving you a chance to taste any four of the six brands.

The good times won’t stop after their birthday month; you can expect more great things from Featherstone Brewery in the future. Come festival time, look out for their limited-edition Festival Ale, official beer of the National Arts Festival. They are also in the process of acquiring the required licence to open a tasting room and beer garden at the brewery, where they will offer their full range as well as limited edition beers. This is sure to prove to be a real treat for beer connoisseurs and anyone looking to relax and enjoy the finest Grahamstown has to offer in terms of taste and nature.

Featherstone Brewery would like to take this opportunity to thank Maxi-Gas, Rayner General Agencies and Fusion for their fantastic support as they set up this past year. They’d also like to thank their patrons - the Grahamstown community - and all their stockists: The Rat and Parrot, Casa de Loco, Haricots Deli & Bistro, Saint’s Bistro & Inn, Browns, Mad Hatters, Red Café, Gino’s & The Vic, The Wyvern, Graze by the River, The Bean and Olive, Stanley’s, Continental Deli & Tapas, Away with the Fairies, Pick ‘n Pay Liquors (Pepper Grove Mall & Heritage Mall), Oak Cottage Tops, and Preston’s (Kenton & Bushman’s River Mouth).
