City doctor to be honoured

- STAFF REPORTER

Dr Celia Jameson Rose, much-loved and respected specialist physician will be honoured in the naming and dedication of newly landscaped ‘Rose Garden’ at St Cyprian’s Church, Highlands in May. Dr Jameson, who practiced as a specialist physician in Grahamstown for over 35 years, passed away five days before Christmas last year after a long battle with cancer. She had served the community in many way including being instrumental in the establishment of the new Public Private Partnership Hospital at Settlers and the Palliative Care facility for the terminally ill. She was also a long-time member of the St Cyprian’s congregation.

The Church at Highlands has recently landscaped the gardens for offering the now popular Country Fair held there every September and the excitement of children (both young and old) from all over the Grahamstown district. The funds raised in this project are used to support the Monastery School.

The Church has decided to name the new gardens ‘The Rose Garden’ in honour of Dr Jameson Rose and the Dedication will be held on Sunday 14 May at noon following a special Eucharist service at 11am. The Cathedral Choir, of which Dr Jameson was also an enthusiastic member for many years, will be present and will sing at the service. The Dedication will be followed by a bring-and-share picnic lunch to be held in the new gardens.

Many people were unable to attend the funeral service for Dr Jameson held at the Cathedral on Christmas Eve and everyone will be welcome at the Dedication function. As the Highlands Road is not in great shape at the moment it is suggested people use the Alicedale Road turn off the N2 and then follow signs to the Church.
