Face the facts... and still believe

-

Sooner or later the painful realities of life’s disappointments catch up with us, often leading to cynicism and unbelief.

Abraham faces the same challenges we do. Well past 50, Abraham and his wife, Sarah, are childless. As his dream of a successor ebbs away, God gives him an amazing promise, that they will indeed have a child and that Abraham will in fact become the father of many nations.

After a 25-year wait after this promise, Sarah gives birth to Isaac.

As if that were not enough, Abraham proves his obedience to God, by showing his willingness to sacrifice the boy a few years later.

Through all of this, we see that God promises, God tests and God comes through. How can I trust God, you may say? Romans 5:8 declares that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. In other words, you will not know everything, but through the Cross, you know enough to trust the promises of God.

After the promise comes the test, where we are forced to face the facts. Tough as it is, God brings these to us, so that like Abraham, we might give glory to Him as we express his worthiness above the hopes and dreams that we may or may not have. Finally, God comes through on all his promises.

Our biggest problem however, is that we often ‘box’ God, prescribing the timing and manner of his delivery. Rarely does it happen in the way we imagine.

Nevertheless, when we look at the character of God, at it says in Romans 4:21, like Abraham, we can face the facts and yet still be fully persuaded that God has the power to do what He promised.

Be encouraged in Him. God Bless.
