August Angling in Peddie
The August outing for the Albany Angling Association (AAA) was held at the Mankayana Dam in the Peddie District, over the past weekend.
Anglers arrived to find the water dirty with a cool temperature of 13.5 degrees. These factors were due to the heavy rains days before the competition. It was another one of those trips where some anglers had everything going their way, while others found the fishing tough.
The women’s section was won by Laura Nish with a bag of .550kg. The junior section was won by Luke Bradfield from Port Alfred, with a bag of .620kg. The heaviest fish of the day was landed by Dave Martin with a fish of 3,020kg. Daryn du Preez won the heaviest bag with a total weight of 3.580 (which comprised 3 fish). Dave Martin took second place in the heaviest bag section, followed by Ed Hannen in third with his 2.880kg bag.
Chairman of the AAA, Quentin du Preez thanked all anglers for their loyal support “and to true spirit in which they fish these competitions. Again to the guys that travel from Port Elizabeth, Kenton, Port Alfred to attend these activities, a big thank you”.
