A life-long commitment to values

- By LINDANI DONYELI

On Sunday 24 September people gathered in Vukani at the invitation of newly married couple Wandile Maguma and his wife Siphokazi Limise Maguma to celebrate Heritage Day and for a kitchen party to celebrate their relationship.

Locals and out-of-town visitors enjoyed performances of traditional Xhosa songs by a local group from Jaster Seventh Day Adventist Church and Vukani imbongi Mbishe Mcoboki as party goers gave the couple presents and money.

Ward 13 councillor Thembakazi Seyisi was the guest speaker. She told the couple to be strong because in marriage, there are ups and downs.

“Never forget where we come from as Xhosa people,” Seyisi said. “Stand as one and respect one another to stop violence and crime in our community.”

Groom Wandisi Magama said, “We decided to use Heritage Day to bring back ubuntu to our community. We have lost our pride. We are following other people’s cultures and forgetting who we are.”

Guests had been asked to wear traditional attire to the celebration. for that reason.
