Celebrations with Sakhuluntu

- By AMAN BLOOM

Undaunted by the unexpected occurrence of an ANC rally at Extension 9’s Community Hall, which caused an hour and a half delay, the audience of over 400 were treated to an afternoon of inspiring speeches and enthusiastic traditional dancing at the 17th annual Photo: AMan Bloom Sakhuluntu Youth Festival last Sunday. Appreciation was given for the generous assistance of the International Library of African Music (ILAM) and the Access Music Project (AMP!), as well as accolades to Sakhuluntu’s founder and director, Vuyo Booi.

Started in 1998, the Sakhu- luntu Cultural Group is a community organisation operating from Extension 9 in Joza.

In addition to organising and hosting the Youth Festival, the group’s focus is traditional Xhosa dance, also providing skills in visual arts, creative writing, reading, drama and drumming/percussion.
