Please eliminate these health hazards

-

We at Settlers Close just want to express our despair and disappointment with Makana Municipality. We have lodged several complaints with the Infrastructure and Technical Dept regarding the sewerage swamp on Fiddlers Green and the storm drain which also has sewerage.

Until now nothing has been done – and it is making the most awful stink! The potholes in Knight Street were recently filled with sand and gravel but the biggest and deepest pothole at the end of Knight Street linking with Cawood Street was not filled (not that this is a long term solution as this is a very busy road). I can’t understand the omission – very soon there will be a tree sprouting out of it.

The lane between Standard Bank and the City Hall was disinfected during the Arts Festival – but the public and the Standard Bank Security guards are always using that lane to urinate and defecate and it therefore still needs to be disinfected regularly.

Need I say that these are all health hazards: I just hope that these issues will receive attention very, very soon.

Makana Municipality responds:

In response to the letter regarding the sewage spillage:

I am not sure who the author of the letter is and I disagree with the statement, “Until now nothing has been done – and it is making the most awful stink!”

As we speak there is no spillage at Fiddlers Green and whenever a blockage occurs, we attend to it; hence I do not agree with the above statement.

It is difficult having to respond to complaints reported to the media without us knowing. We are not sure if the writer is talking about a past occurrence or a current situation. We inspected Fiddlers Green on receipt of this email but found no spillage at that time.
