After their stellar performanc­es in their second respective home matches of the 2018/2019 Guinness Pro14 season, the Isuzu Southern Kings and the Toyota Cheetahs will once again take to Europe this weekend. The Cheetahs will travel to Cardiff on Friday night to tackle the Blues, while the Kings will look to get their second win of the season against the Scarlets in Llanelli on Saturday night.

Springboks

The Castle Lager Rugby Championsh­ip returns to South Africa this weekend when Australia descend upon the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday afternoon, in an attempt to spoil the Springbok party, which is still raging from their shock win over the All Blacks in Wellington two weeks ago.

Proteas

West Indies women got the T20 Internatio­nal series off to a winning start when they beat South Africa by 17 runs in a low scoring affair at Kensington Oval on Monday 24 September. They went 1-0 up in the five-match series. The series now moves to the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad. South Africa will take on the hosts in the second match this Friday, 28 September.

Pineapple run

The 2018 Pineapple Run will take place on Saturday 6 October, and will once again contain a long 27km and shorter 10km run, starting at the Big Pineapple in Bathurst. Online entries will remain open until 2 October, at entrytime. com.

Canoeing

Following a whirlwind few weeks that saw Andy Birkett claim the elusive K1 and K2 gold medals at the 2018 ICF Canoe Marathon World Championsh­ips, his focus has now shifted to the SA K1 River Championsh­ips at the Hansa Fish River Canoe Marathon from 5-6 October. Euro Steel’s Birkett emulated good friend and K2 partner Hank Mcgregor to become the second South African to do the double at the same world championsh­ips.
