Paint the rest of the wall in the colour of your choice (we used Tjhoko Inspired Wall Colours in True Blue). Allow the paint to dry completely (at least one hour). 2 Carefully remove the masking tape. Once you’re absolutely sure the new paint is completely dry, stick masking tape along the lines of the painted section so that 3 Now for the stencilling Make sure your background colour is completely dry before positioning the first stencil with masking tape. Apply the first colour with a stencil brush, using the dry-brush technique. Carefully remove the stencil while the paint is still damp. Repeat the process with your other stencils and colours, distributing the patterns at random over the area; you can even go across the lines. Allow to dry completely each time (at least 15 minutes). you can work with confidence within the unpainted area. Use a paintbrush to apply a little True Blue and Cloud White to your bath sponge, then ‘wash’ the unpainted area in a circular motion to create a textural light blue finish. If necessary, you can spray on some water with a mist sprayer to make the paint easier to blend. Allow to dry completely (at least 30 minutes).

Create detail

• Shadows: when the initial stencilling has dried completely, move the stencil slightly to the left or right, then repeat the dry-brush technique with a different colour halfway over the first pattern. • Use parts of one stencil over another.

• A bit of bling: use one of Tjhoko Paint’s metallic colours, such as Ali’s Gold, in places.
