Q&A with Derick and Paul
Any cost-cutting tips? The minute we knew we were about to take on a renovation project, we started buying finishes and bathroom fittings on sales. Neutral finishes allow us to make easy and affordable changes to the décor with cushions and accessories. Where did you get your ideas? I worked through piles of Home magazines and combined those ideas with my own. Paul worked in Russia last year and we spent lots of time Skyping back and forth, trying to convert our inspiration into workable ideas. What do you like most about your new home? The extra bathroom upstairs – and we wouldn’t swop the new stoep for anything! On weekends we love sitting there, drinks in hand, watching the sea. What’s next? We have a big property and would like to build on a new addition that can be let out separately with bedrooms, bathrooms and a big living area with its own patio and pool.
