Any cost-cutting tips? I always keep an eye on promotions in my area. Many companies sell off old stock at rock-bottom prices once a year. You’ll need to join the queues early on a Saturday morning though! What do you enjoy most about your new kitchen? It feels much lighter and bigger now that it’s not all brown and cream.

What’s next? I wouldn’t change anything about the kitchen. We are very happy with it. The bathroom, on the other hand, is another story. I have already bought a new corner bath for just R100, all the fittings and a heated towel rail at those early morning sales. Now I’m monitoring the price of tiles...

The meranti worktops (above) are both lovely and practical; if they get damaged, they can simply be sanded and re-varnished. They’ve been sealed with Woodoc 20 polyurethane sealant.
