Main alterations
The interior walls that divided the house in two were demolished. A bathroom was added and new windows installed: two large windows in the bedroom and one large and two small windows in the bathroom.
The plumbing and electrical wiring was redone. A gas geyser was installed that together with the existing solar geyser provides more than enough hot water.
The kitchen got a new scullery, countertops and shelving. A ceiling was installed and the house was repainted inside and out. The alcove housing the fireplace was converted into storage space for the kitchen and a freestanding fireplace was installed.
Brown paper was glued to the floors which were then sealed with yacht varnish – an inexpensive solution for an unsightly cement floor. A stoep was added on – but this project is still a work in progress.
