The black pendant is actually a candleholder turned upside down and the Oregon pine storage cupboard ( bottom left) was once the couple’s TV cabinet; Kelly painted the panels with a blend of leftover acrylic paints. The couple saved a fortune by keeping the original kitchen cupboards. Johnathan made the countertops using timber from an old staircase.

“Update kitchen cupboards with bathroom paint – it provides a matte finish, dries quickly and it’s waterproof, making the cupboards easy to clean,” Kelly advises.

Kelly loves the old-world feel of the roll-top acrylic bath in the en-suite bathroom; it was an outside room before the couple sealed the external door. This space was split in two to allow for a walk-in closet ( door on the left). Reclaimed doors with glass panes let in plenty of light.
