Easy extravagance

Just three elements – wallpaper (this was purchased online in a specific size rather than a roll), an artwork and a chandelier retrieved from storage – transformed an ordinary lavatory into a luxurious loo. “It’s a very small space, so I wanted it to pack a punch,” says homeowner André Kruger of Brooklyn in Pretoria. The theme was inspired by the painting above the loo. “I have a deal with my good friend and sculptor Ruhan Janse van Vuuren that when either of us goes abroad, we bring back a kitch gift for the other. He brought me this artwork from Amsterdam, which I had framed. It proves that you don’t need to spend much to transform a space; you could do it for less than you might spend hosting a good dinner party!”
