ON THE JOB…

Dilapidated and neglected, the house did not have an attractive façade. Sally had to get a digger in to cut away part of the slope at the back of the property. Her father, John Chance, helped her to level all the lawns. 2

The kitchen and dining area were raw brick and cement when Sally bought the house. She opted for black screed floors that complement the older wooden floors.

Walls were demolished to create an open-plan living area. In the lounge, the old fireplace was replaced and the Oregon pine floors were restored. The hole that was left in the ceiling after thieves made off with the geyser is visible above the fireplace. New doors, ceilings and lighting were installed throughout the house.

An arched window on the façade was replaced with French doors that open up onto a new veranda. “The previous owner had already bought the doors and a new arched window that would go above them, so my builder installed them,” Sally explains.

A wall was built between Ruby’s bedroom and bathroom.

In Liam’s bedroom, the windows were raised slightly from floor height.
