All kinds of décor! Judith de Jager of Diep River writes
There’s always a range of décor styles to be found in Home – from industrial to eclectic, mid-century to modern, Moroccan to Scandi, rustic to sleek... My favourite style is modern farmhouse, so I thoroughly enjoyed your September issue. Farmhouse elements like gingham upholstery, distressed white furniture, grey-painted open shelving, half panelling, white crockery and a dresser repurposed as a bathroom cupboard had me gazing longingly at the Macdonalds’ home. I loved Sue Macdonald’s beautiful tablescapes and shelf displays with basketware, flowers, families of copper and porcelain pieces, candles in glasses and natural elements like pine cones.
Then there were the Fix it with Flair finalists’ homes featuring whitewashed facebrick, geometric floor tiles, pendant lights and at least one butler sink. I savoured it all and I’m so glad modern farmhouse is becoming part of our local décor scene. Now all I want is for local DIY stores to start offering beadboard for all the projects I’m dreaming of...
