Pig’s ears (Cotyledon orbiculata)

Home (South Africa) - - READER GARDEN -

These plants have thick succulent leaves that can vary in colour from green to silver-grey, sometimes with a white coating and a red line around the margin, depending on the variety.

Their flowering time varies from winter in the summer rainfall region to midsummer in winter rainfall areas. Tubular, orange-red bellshaped flowers are held in clusters on the ends of elongated flower stalks and attract bees and birds. It makes an attractive plant in a rockery, clustered in a sunny, well-drained border or as a pot plant.
