The dry-packed natural stone wall at the back of the house features strategica­lly positioned windows that provide light on the staircase and mezzanine level. The use of primary colours on the plasterwor­k around the windows also has a big impact: “This was inspired by the colours of modern art, comic books and pop art,” says Quinsley.

“We used the colours in small doses to add a playful element to the façade and they are repeated in the small tiles in the en-suite bathroom and guest loo downstairs.” >>
