Waterwise plant of the month
Grasses play an important role in a garden, stabilising the soil, rustling and whispering in the slightest breeze and adding textural contrast and form as they weave among other plants in the garden. Ngongoni grass (Aristida junciformis) is a hardy tufted grass with an arching habit, feathery plumes of green to brown and white seed heads. This indigenous grass is a favourite of garden landscapers and popular for block plantings as well as softening paved areas, path edges and hard landscaping. It’s also low maintenance and waterwise once established. Cut back in early spring.
