writes Home is my favourite mag­a­zine be­cause it’s filled with colour (some­thing I can’t live without) and be­cause the homes fea­tured are dec­o­rated by peo­ple who love their trea­sures and dis­play them in won­der­ful ways.

I want to share with you what hap­pened when I de­cided I re­ally had to fix my ‘jacuzzi room’; we had no money to re­move the mon­stros­ity or retile it... I used paint from the garage, a table­cloth and bull­dog clips, a piece of board from a can­teen ta­ble in my son’s garage, a roll of mask­ing tape and I pur­chased modge podge for the de­coupage. The to­tal cost was just over R100 and I now have a book nook (top) and play space for lit­tle vis­i­tors.

Also, when the chalk paint bug bites, noth­ing can stop it but this chair from my child­hood home (right) re­mains un­scathed. The wear on it con­jures up won­der­ful me­mories of time spent around the kitchen ta­ble: Sun­day break­fasts cooked by Dad; watch­ing Mom make bread; teatime twice a day (a sit-down af­fair) and countless more…
