#6 Romantic in soft pink
At Tugela House in Franschhoek, well-known for its relaxed yet sophisticated look, each guest room has its own theme. For this space, interior designer Camilla Fraser of Camilla Fraser Design decided on a soft, warm pink with Asian elements. “The room faces east and initially felt cold and dark,” she says. A warm pink was, therefore, a good choice.
“I like to combine pink and blue with splashes of red.
The décor style is classic with traditional furniture and handmade accessories.”
It works because…
TEXTURE The textures work well without any one of them dominating. The woven rug creates warmth, while the reed ceiling contributes to a cosy and natural feel.
ARTWORKS complement the colour scheme and add interest. Framed pictures of birds as a continuous theme works especially well.
PATTERNS have been carefully selected. The secret is to choose different patterns that complement each other in similar colours. This way, the room won’t look “overdecorated” or “matchy matchy”.
The bedroom has an open-plan design and the same palette is repeated in the large en-suite bathroom. Pops of red and blue complement the pink walls. Hand-embroidered cushion from Michael Chandler; towel from Mungo Design
