Q: I love the dining chairs on page 50 of your September 2020 edition. Where can I find something similar? – Sharon Jansen, Johannesburg
A: These Lara chairs were bought from Weylandts (weylandts.co.za) years ago but we’ve seen similar designs at Chair Crazy (chaircrazy.co.za) and Elevenpast (elevenpast.co.za).
Q: In your September 2018 issue, Rudi Oosthuyse explains that the pine finishes in his home have been treated with boron to protect against beetles. Can you tell me more about this? – Adelle Kleynhans, Boksburg
A: Boron can be used as an alternative to CCA (chromated copper arsenate), which is traditionally used to treat pine. Products such as Dolphin Bay’s (dolphinbay.co.za) contain boron and protect wood from fungi, bacteria and other destructive agents. It can be applied by pressure impregnation or dipping.
