Safe drinking water

Jane Dlamini of Johannesburg writes I’m keen to have an undercounter filter installed; will it really improve the quality of my water? Also, how does the installation process work; can I fit the product myself? Sebasti Badenhorst of JoJo replies This is a great question at a time when water security, quality and supply should be uppermost in all our minds.

The perfect solution would be to have water that adheres to the highest levels of purity and safety every time you open the tap. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

The best, simplest and most cost-effective solution is to filter your water at its end point in the journey to your house: your tap. A filter that eliminates all the contaminants that may make their way into the water before you open the tap will not just ensure your family’s health but also improve the taste of the water.

Choosing your filtration system should be based on how and what it filters. Some systems are little more than sieves that remove solids and impurities and waste a lot of water as part of the filtering process. True filtering eliminates viruses, bacteria, parasites, pathogens, debris, chlorine and medicines that make their way into the system. These systems don’t just give you ‘clear’ water, but water that is pure, healthy and sustainable.

The JoJo Undercounter Filter incorporates a tap that sits alongside your kitchen sink taps. Supplied with everything required for installation, this unit is easy to connect to your water supply and takes up minimal space. If you’re not much of a DIY enthusiast, a qualified plumber can do it in no time.

To give you the technical jargon: the filter boasts a two-stage filtration unit. The first stage relies on a polypropylene pleated cartridge that removes sediment and particulates larger than 5 microns. The second stage features a breakthrough Disruptor cartridge that uses technology from space agency NASA to remove viruses, bacteria, parasites, trace pharmaceuticals, chlorine and more. It also contains an anti-microbial silver to disinfect and powdered activated carbon to reduce odours and improve the taste of the water.

The filter has a capacity of 3 000L of water per set of cartridges, which are easy to replace, and comes with a three-year warranty. And best of all? It costs just 20c per litre of filtered water. Filtration is an affordable, simple solution that is also aesthetically pleasing! >>
