QUICK PROJECT GUIDE

Hard labour 2/10

Skill level 6/10

Time needed Half a day

Do it yourself for R757: fabric R300, foam R122, batting R35, belts R300

1 Cut the batting the same size as the 6 edges of the foam. Use spray adhesive to glue it to the foam.

2 Measure, mark and cut the fabric into the following sizes: • two 1 030 x 380mm pieces (top and bottom)

• two 1 030 x 105mm pieces (long sides)

• two 380 x 105mm pieces (short sides)

3 For the cover Pin the long edges of the long sides and the bottom piece together with the right sides facing each other and sew in place. Do the same with the short sides. Now pin the short edges of the long side and short sides together and sew in place to form a box shape.

4 Pin the top piece to the edges of the box shape you made in step 3 and sew together but remember to leave one seam undone – simply overlock (or zigzag if you use a sewing machine) these edges.

5 Insert the foam you prepared with the batting in step 1 into the cover you’ve sewn. It might feel a little tight; bend the foam a bit to make it go in. Once the foam is snuggly inside, hand sew the last seam closed with a blind slip stitch.

6 Place the cushion on the bench. Slip the belts through the two slots on each side and fasten the belts around the cushion.
