Here’s how... The drawer units

-

1 Start with the frames Screw a frame base between the ends of two frame sides. Then screw two frame spacers between the other ends of the sides to complete one frame. Repeat the process to make two more frames. 2 Lay the frame on one side; measure and mark 300mm from the bottom of the frame (on the inside). Draw a perpendicular line from front to back, 40mm above the 300mm mark. Screw in the wide runner of the drawer mechanism on this line. Make sure the runner is 2mm in from the front edge. Place another wide drawer runner on the bottom of the frame and screw it to the side. Do the same on the opposite side; repeat the process to make the other two frames for your drawer units.

3 Now for the drawers Screw a drawer front and back between the ends of two drawer sides. Screw a drawer base between the sides, flush with the bottom edge. Repeat to make five more drawers.

4 Screw the narrow piece of the drawer runner to the sides of each drawer; slide the two parts of the runner into each other and push the drawers into the cupboard. Repeat to get all the drawers in position.

5 Remove the cupboard doors and set aside. Place a black shelf on the bottom of both sides of the cupboard. Place the drawer units on top, then screw in the door spacer between the drawer units and the sides of the cupboards to prevent the drawers from bumping against the doors. Make sure the drawer units are 18mm in from the front of the cupboard, then screw them to the sides of the cupboard. 6 Drill two pilot holes in each of the drawer fronts, then screw in two 8mm x 30mm screws from the inside until the tips protrude about 5mm on the outside of the drawers. Place a drawer front on a 3mm spacer (see inset) in the correct position on the outside of the drawer. Lightly tap the drawer front with your hand so that the screws make marks on the inside of the drawer front – this helps you to screw the drawer front in the correct position. Repeat with the rest of the drawers, making sure that the drawer fronts are always square. >>

7 Place the other black shelf on top of the drawer units on each side of the cupboard, then screw it in from below so that the screws are not visible from above. 8 Measure from the top of the cupboard to determine how long you want the doors to be. 9 Measure and mark this length on the inside of the cupboard door and draw a line across the door on this mark. Determine the middle of the door’s width on this line; use a plank offcut and drill a pilot hole 310mm (half the width of the door) in from one end of the plank. Lightly attach the plank at the middle point you marked on the door. Using this plank and a pencil, make a curved mark along the bottom of the door. Saw the door along the curved line and repeat with the other two doors.
