Mix the sugar soap according to the instructions on the packet. Wash all melamine surfaces thoroughly with this mixture and a sponge. Always wear gloves to protect your skin when working with sugar soap and open all windows for ventilation.

Mask around the outside of the built-in wardrobe. Apply the primer to all surfaces that will be painted; allow to dry.

Paint the door fronts and edges with two coats of Wildness Mint; let the paint dry between coats. Do the same with the interior of the cupboard; we painted the larger surfaces with white water-based paint and the carcass edges with black enamel.

Wait until all the paint has dried before hanging the doors back in place and attaching the handles.

Screw the doors back in place. Measure and mark where you want to position the handles for the doors and for the lower drawers. The upper drawers will be behind the curved doors so each just gets a hole as a grip. Drill and screw the handles for the lower drawers in place. Measure and mark where the holes for the upper drawers will be, then drill holes for the grips with the 30mm spade bit.

Tip Only drill these holes halfway through, then drill the other half from the inside so that the melamine doesn’t splinter too much. Sand any sharp edges on these holes smooth without scratching the melamine, then apply wood filler to the raw chipboard in the holes.
