House and Leisure (South Africa) - - View - CHUMA M. MAWENI

Chuma Maweni’s unique table and stools set, Imbizo – meaning ‘gathering’ in Xhosa – consists of handthrown, one-of-a-kind items that are a sublime evolution of his ceramic work to date. The table boasts a carved, ebonised timber top (it’s the first time Maweni has turned his hand to wood carving) and the base, stools, carafe and drinking cups are all fashioned from clay, with metallic glazed surfaces. Embodying striking form, breathtaking skills and beautiful decoration, these are shining examples of South Africa’s best craft.
