Steyn (left) and Harry (right) in­stalled tall slit win­dows for pri­vacy and to main­tain the in­te­rior’s gallery-like feel; oc­cu­py­ing one end of the barn-like build­ing is the main bed­room, whose glass fa­cade opens up to the farm beyond and an out­door seat­ing area with a ta­ble and chairs by French de­signer Philippe Starck; the dou­ble shower, made from re­cy­cled bricks, is si­t­u­ated be­hind the bed­room’s wall, and has a tex­tured look thanks to the com­bi­na­tion of cop­per pip­ing, con­crete and glass; named for the rolled-up shape in which he sleeps, Donut the cat en­joys the af­ter­noon sun on the scullery’s win­dowsill, which the cou­ple painted yel­low to com­ple­ment the sunny blooms that emerge amid the fyn­bos in win­ter. ‘It’s like an art win­dow,’ says Steyn.
