Unknown Freedom
Not knowing that life in itself was my right, bound me.
Curled and left me in circles, Spinning in coal in the cold- hearted community.
Convincing me that self - confinement was key
So, I kept hugging myself in the cold Though I longed to sleep in the warm arms of those who’d teach me about my rights,
Humans who’d tell me that there’d been barriers broken
And I could take off the bandage and dance
But in confinement is no expression So, I lived, and I realized the curls being stretched.
My soul filled with gratitude to the right to freedom of expression which meant my long walk to freedom had begun.
In freedom I danced, expressing life within freely.
