WEDDING BLISS AT VONDELING

VONDELING IN VOOR-PAARDEBERG BEGAN ITS LIFE AS A WINE PRODUCER IN THE EARLY 18TH CENTURY. TODAY IT IS AN ESTATE OF SUBLIME NATURAL BEAUTY, AND HOME TO A QUAINT CHAPEL FOR INTIMATE WEDDING CEREMONIES.

The estate is situated in the Voor Paardeberg area of the Paarl district. Here, manicured lawns surround the manor house, church, and tasting room – where some delicious vintages can be sampled – and meet the slopes of the Paardeberg with its contrasting rugged beauty.

CHAPEL CHARM

St Clement’s, with its white walls and classic charm, was completed in 2013 to host intimate wedding ceremonies. Inside, specially made wooden pews can seat up to 100 guests, while sunlight streams through stained-glass windows. At the altar, an imported German organ waits to welcome brides with a traditional (or not-so-traditional) wedding march.

A RECEPTION TO REMEMBER

After the ceremony, photos can be taken in several locations on the farm, all offering beautiful natural settings, while guests enjoy canapés overlooking the majestic Paardeberg.

The reception is hosted in the Cape Heritage-style wedding venue just a few steps away from St Clement’s Chapel, where fairy lights strewn from the roof of the veranda provide a magical backdrop to the outdoor dancefloor.

TO REST AND RELAX

The two-storey manor house on the estate is ideal for the bridal couple to get wedding-ready on the day, and provides overnight accommodation for 14 guests after the festivities. The Cape Dutchstyle house dates back to the 1700’s, yet offers all the modern amenities such as a fully equipped kitchen, DStv and WiFi. Outside, the 20 m swimming pool with surrounding loungers and undercover braai area are ideal places to relax with friends and family after the wedding celebrations and to toast to wedded bliss.
