CEO LETTER – Elmar Conradie

Hello and welcome aboard this FlySafair flight. I’m so glad to share our love of flying with you as we kick off 2020.

At the end of 2019, we celebrated the Springboks’ victory in Japan, as well as the crowning of Zozibini Tunzi as Miss Universe. These victories shifted the country’s morale, and have set a positive tone for 2020.

Within FlySafair we also celebrated some victories.Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has an annual excellence awards ceremony at each of their airports.We made a clean sweep for 2019 by winning the Feather Award for Best LowCost Carrier at every ACSA airport we operate from. I’m proud to say that this is the third time that we have managed this feat.

These awards are a significant boost for our team, as it recognises the hard work they have put in all year to ensure we offer our customers excellent service.

One of the primary criteria for these awards when it comes to this category is the airline’s on-time performance track record. FlySafair has a record on-time performance (OTP) of over 93% for 2019 –the leading on-time performance record among all airlines operating in South Africa, and among the top in the world.

Performing our own maintenance is the biggest contributor to maintaining a good OTP. Independently maintaining our aircraft at our technical facility has kept our standards high, and guarantees our passengers a reliable service.

In December we also won a number of awards at the SA Civil Aviation Authority Excellence Awards. I’m proud to announce that we won the awards for Aircraft Operator of the Year, Customer Services, Aviation Security, Maintenance Organisation of the Year, and overall winner of Aviation Company of the Year. I was also honoured as one of the Aviation Professionals of the Year.

We are proud to have won these awards and I want to thank all our staff, supporters and partners who helped make this possible.

2019 was an interesting year for the aviation industry and for the country. It was a year full of ups and downs, but we are confident we will carry our positive momentum well into 2020.
