We’re into the second quar ter of 2021, and things are star ting to look up for South Africans. Although the fear of a third wave is present, overall, with vaccines rolling out and Covid-19 numbers looking like they are under control, South Africans are starting to be a bit more optimistic about the rest of this year.

During the first quarter,we worked hard on future endeavours. One of these projects is the introduction of our regional flights, and we successfully applied for the rights to operate flights between South Africa and Mauritius.

While a schedule is not currently available due to the island nation’s travel ban to and from South Africa, we will introduce a twice-weekly service as soon as government regulations allow.

This is an all-important milestone for our team as we expand our operations outside of South Africa’s borders.We’ve had our sights set on expanding into regional services for some time, and we hope this will be one of many announcements to come concerning our expanding operations.

Our innovation department has also used the last year to their advantage, giving a lot of attention to crafting our mobile app.The app aims to make our customers’ experience simpler by centralising all booking details in one place. On the app, customers can book flights and manage a great deal of their journey directly from their devices.

Users create a profile on the app, which allows them to save regular travellers’ details and even remember their payment details, making booking really simple. Boarding passes are kept on the device, so there’s no need to touch shared surfaces at the airport.The app also has extensive notification services to ensure that you know when your flight is boarding or even on which carousel you can find your bag.

Now seemed like a great time to launch the app because we could make a lot of adjustments to the features to ensure that they were relevant in this Covid-19 reality. The FlySafair App is available for download, free of charge, in both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
