Meet the Crew
Have you ever wondered who is flying the plane when you travel on SA Express? Or wanted to know more about what a job as a cabin crew member is like? Well, now’s your chance! Every month we will introduce a member of our SA Express family – because by getting to know them, you become part of the SA Express family too.
Carol Fry
Senior Cabin Crew Member
What was your very first flight like?
It was in 1995, and I was afraid but curious. I soon got over my fears and anxiety when we were on board and had begun our initial safety checks. Since then, it’s been amazing.
Where are your favourite destinations to travel to?
I love Brazil – the place, the people, and just their manner of living life to the full.
What do you love most about your job?
It’s the various people you encounter on board, from VIPs and celebrities to just average people. The conversations you strike up with people are interesting and you are afforded an opportunity to network – not for business but to expand your circle of acquaintances.
What’s your favourite passenger memory?
A person who was travelling with her family from Johannesburg to Lubumbashi, in the DRC, had left her expensive bag on board. It was too late to send it with the ground staff as they had left the tarmac area, so we had to return to Johannesburg with the bag. For two weeks we searched for the bag without any trace of it, but eventually, I found the bag in the DM: OCC office where it had been kept for safekeeping. I made contact with the passenger and re-united her with her bag. She was so happy and relieved because it contained expensive shoes she had bought on her travels to South Africa.
What’s one tip you would like to give passengers for a better flying experience?
Respect the crew and be patient when we have delays. SA Express will never compromise on safety.
What do you love most about flying?
No day is ever the same. You are guaranteed to experience something different on almost every flight.
