#changeyourlife! with SA Maritime School

-

WHEN it’s time to head into the world and make a life, you are likely to be faced with many real challenges. It’s not easy to get a tertiary education, and then a decent job. Many sit with an education and no job.

So what is the right education for you once you leave school? Surely it should be exciting, equip you for life, and secure the job you need to make a life for yourself ?

SA Maritime School & Transport College has been in operation for more than 30 years, and in this time has launched thousands of learners into successful maritime and transport careers.

Independent Media chatted with Peter Fitt Jr, Chairman of SA Maritime School, to see what sets this college apart from others. As it turns out, it runs far deeper than simply getting an education.

Fitt explained: “A young man recently entered the boardroom and introduced himself saying, ‘Do you remember me?’ I replied, ‘Jog my memory please.’ He continued, ‘In 2017, you filled up at the garage I had worked at for 10 years. You told me I was still young and should advance my career options by studying.’

“Unfortunately the company he worked for did not offer leave on Saturdays. I felt moved to assist him and offered him a bursary at SA Maritime School. He completed our Certificate in International Trade, and then Freight Handling part-time in his second year. He then landed a learnership with Bulk Connections and told me ‘This has truly changed my life’.”

Fitt smiled. “We are in the business of changing lives,” he said.

It is clear that SA Maritime School has a passion for developing young people, but what gives its learners the edge when launching their careers? Long history SA Maritime School has a long and proven track record. Its courses and practical training methods are tried and tested, with the most established facilities and expert facilitators.

Accredited Without proper accreditation, courses can be a waste of time. SA Maritime School’s courses are all fully accredited. Leadership and life skills A key ingredient in SA Maritime School’s offering is the free SA Maritime School leadership training, in which all learners participate throughout the year. This includes activities like hiking, sailing, mountain biking and more. Recently, a music school was added. These activities build excellent teamwork and life-skills, broadening horizons previously never explored. Great opportunities Excellent results by SA Maritime School learners, together with long-standing company and industry relationships, combine to create opportunities for learnerships, internships and employment for learners.

Even a quick visit to the SA Maritime School campus reveals the school’s hands-on vision and how excited young people are to be there. Located in the hub of Durban’s modern maritime Point precinct, this is a fantastic environment in which to study and change your life for the better.
