HIGH­LIGHTS:

Bax­ter led Bafana in the 2005 Con­ca­caf Gold Cup, go­ing un­beaten in the group stages after beat­ing Mex­ico 2-1 in their open­ing en­counter be­fore bow­ing out in the quar­ter-fi­nals via penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw with Panama. He also se­cured a first-ever win for Bafana over Nige­ria in the 2004 Man­dela Chal­lenge, while also guid­ing South Africa to a friendly away win over Tu­nisia.

LOWLIGHTS:

Failed to qual­ify for the 2006 World Cup, end­ing third in their qual­i­fy­ing group be­hind Ghana and the Demo­cratic Repub­lic of Congo. He failed to win any of his last nine matches at the helm, lead­ing to his dis­missal after de­feat to Sene­gal in Novem­ber 2005.
