Kick Off

Substitutes

-

Goalkeeper – Itumeleng Khune

Having had the privilege to play with him at club level, I think Itumeleng Khune has done a great job for his club and South Africa whenever called upon.

Defender – Lucas Radebe

The big Chief, whenever he had an opportunity to play, always gave his best, though he was unfortunately troubled by a lot of injuries in his career. When he played for South Africa, there is no doubt that he always gave 100 percent. Whether he was captain or not, you could always count on him and he always put his body on the line.

Midfielder – Steven Pienaar

When the late Shoes and Doctor faded away, we needed players to be creative. Steven then came onto the scene, and he would definitely be in my matchday squad – he would be my first substitution.

Forward – Phil Masinga

For me, if you want to talk about a striker that can put a ball into the back of the net, then you are talking about Phil Masinga. He was one of our top strikers and it’s a shame that these days we talk about strikers who can’t score more than 20 goals a season. It’s something that we need to look at, and possibly ask some of these guys to come back and give back their knowledge and experience to today’s youngsters.

Forward – Shaun Bartlett

Always leave the best for last. Ha, ha, ha.
